Timely Reflections on Spatial Justice
CounterWorlds
With: Rana Abughannam (editor)
I am pleased to announce the publication of Timely Reflections on Spatial Justice, edited by Rana Abughannam, and featuring contributions from distinguished scholars and academics who engage critically with notions of space, place, and the city through intersecting, interdisciplinary approaches.
The book includes my chapter, “On Borders,” which rethinks borders not merely as territorial lines, but as epistemic and corporeal spaces where power, knowledge, and belonging are continuously negotiated.
Drawing on both Western and Islamic philosophical traditions—from border to al-ḥadd—the chapter explores how borders can be reimagined beyond sovereignty and exclusion, toward relations, transformation, and anti-colonial imagination.
At a time when the confrontation between Western epistemologies and those emerging from the Global South intensifies—most visibly and painfully in Gaza—space itself becomes a field of meaning, resistance, and liberation.
May we one day honor the martyrs for what they have liberated us with—their souls and their blood.
The book is open-access and freely available on link:
